That's A Lotta Mosaics!!

On day 2 in Ravenna, we headed out to hit up as many of the UNESCO World Heritage sites as possible. I have pictures, but really they just don't show how gorgeous and intricate the mosaics are. It was pretty incredible to be walking around churches and places that have been there since the 400s- really cool experience. At one point, I put the camera down and just enjoyed the atmosphere and tried to be as present as possible.

Sometimes, I think we try to hard to take the perfect picture or capture each and every moment, and by doing so, we actually miss that moment. I mean, most of us take digital photos and download them to the computer...and then do we look at them again? Maybe while we are deciding which ones to post to Facebook or Instagram or perhaps to a blog (ahem), but then they just sit there on our computers. Isn't it better to take a mental picture? Truly be there in that moment and just soak it all in?

I don't know...just my thoughts...

We stopped for lunch- piadinas- and gelato. And a little bit of shopping, where we ran into a random British woman who was SO HAPPY to hear other people speak English!

All the walking had taken it's toll, so we went back to the room to relax. After much indecision, we decided to find the bus that went to the beaches. It took a while because, well, things weren't running exactly how everyone said they should, but eventually we got to the harbor. Walked a bit to find the beach and then walked out on the breakwater for what seemed like miles!!

Hungry, we stopped at this great little place that gave us so many free appetizers that we almost weren't hungry for dinner- ALMOST. It ended up being one of the best meals of the trip. Lovely grilled octopus.

After dinner, we thought we should find where the bus stop was to take us back. This proved to be a bit nerve-wracking. The beach area/ town was very vibrant and busy with tons of outdoor clubs and restaurants, but finding the correct bus stop was not so easy. After a bit of panic, we were on the bus and in our beds in no time.

So, with no further commentary, the pictures:
