just to add a bit of color...



Two weekends ago, I was working diligently to finish up my last paper for grad school. And as I do, when I'm in the middle of something important, I decided to bake something. I don't know...I guess it de-stresses me. Anyhoodle, I baked up some ricotta strawberry cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting and sprinkles. And, because it was sunny and hot out, I decided to make some potato salad as well. And check out the little potato that was in my potato bag!!!!!! An almost perfect heart....and really I DO love my carbs :)

Both the cupcakes and the potato salad were delicious AND I finished my paper that earned me an A+- see baking works!!

For my grad school class at USC, I had to teach a "micro lesson", record it, edit it down to 7-10 minutes and write an analysis of what I saw.  I don't know how many of you have to videotape yourselves doing your job....but, um, it's not fun!! I detest watching and hearing myself, but it IS a great way to improve my teaching skills.  I wasn't going to share this, but I figured I would show you, my lovely readers ( are there any out there?? ) , why I am living half way around the world in the outpost known as Ostrava. This is me doing my job, following my passion.  Things I learned : Make sure you have the proper rope and practice with it BEFORE trying to create a dog sled team!! I say "OK" and "Yes?" A LOT My a@$ is huge My 7th grade students are taller than me But most importantly: Having students pull you down the hallway is FUN!!!! Badgerjen Summer Tour 2012 Continued

OK- the summer tour is now 4 months old and much has happened since the holidays. But I still want to include you in on all the fun I had on the trip. So I have decided to do a couple of quick summary posts of what happened on the trip- the good, the bad, the stolen luggage. I'll discuss the highlights and post some pics. If there is anything you want more of- let me know!   I left off as I departed Dublin and headed to the States. The beginning of the journey was fine...my first layover was in Raliegh, NC. Nothing that exciting here except that, for the first time, I paid extra for the use of the First Class lounge and it was great!! Made the 8, yes 8 hour!!, layover slightly bearable. The next leg of the journey was to Denver, CO, my old hometown. When I walked off the plane and into DIA, I felt like I was home. Another UNESCO site.....checked off the list!

After our delicious Polish dinner and some rest, we woke the next morning to a beautiful day!! Finally..some sun and blue sky! Of course, I was returning to the "real world" and heading back to Ostrava, but not until the evening. M & D and I had the whole day to explore more of Warsaw. We really lucked out with the location of our hotel as it was pretty close to the old town area of the city. Walking along, we saw several plaques on buildings. These are part of the 'ghetto' trail that was developed by the Jewish Historical Institute.
